Bladder Infections started after taking antibiotics and birth control pills

by Laura

Thanks for writing this. It's really nice to know I'm not alone and the way you offer alternative cures but admit that it's not worth suffering through a UTI for a week so sometimes antibiotics are the cure. I can tell that you are a fellow sufferer unlike the rest of the websites out there.

I have been living abroad in South America and now in Kenya (I'm American) and started getting uti's (around the same time I started taking birth control pills) and was offered lots of over the counter antibiotics. Then a year ago I had a bad motorcycle accident and two operations on my pelvis and knee and tons more antibiotics. Then the uti's were a monthly thing. And I was already miserable dealing with my broken bones.

Most recently I tried going on the anti-candida diet which was hard at first, but as you said, if you get excited about the new recipes rather than missing all of the sugar you can make it work.

Anyways, long story short, thanks for putting up this site and your articles. You give me a lot of hope!

Catheter for a whole week
by: Laura

Hi Georgia,

Yes, I did have a catheter for a WHOLE WEEK! in Nairobi. Of course I got an
infection then too. Even after that they wouldn't let me go to the bathroom for
another week (which was probably a good thing since the fracture wasn't totally
repaired so I was in a lot of pain.) For the second surgery in the US I only
had it during the operation and the first day I think and was fine after that.
(Of course there I was allowed to get up and go to the bathroom the following
day) I used to get UTI's regularly but not nearly as often as after the
surgeries, so I think you may have a good point there! Let me know what you

Another natural remedy you could add to the list is garlic. I have been having
success with that eating it raw, (which is disgusting, but my boyfriend has
been a really good sport through all of this :-) and as a suppository.

Consider catheters
by: Georgia

I just wanted to say thank you so much for your kind words.Thank you so much for sharing your story.

It sounds like you have had a really tough time healthwise over the last year or so - my heart goes out to you. But more than that, I am so pleased you are actively doing something about it. The anti-candida diet is a great way to get on top of that and good on you for persevering even though it's tough.

I was wondering - when you had your operations, do you know if they put a catheter in you? Recently I have been getting questions from women with bladder infections, who started getting them after surgeries where they had catheters inserted. I am doing somemore research on this but just wondered if that was the case for you also?

I look forward to hearing from you and lots of luck in getting back to health.
